Geographically, high summer in the northern hemisphere doesn’t begin until June 21. But we tropical people do things differently here in our islands in the year-round sun. MANILA, Philippines - Tarlac is a city of many firsts. It was one of the first eight provinces to revolt against the Spanish colonizers in the Philippine Revolution of 1896. The nation's first paper money and coins were issued from the province. Tarlac National High School is the first public high school in the country, founded in 1902 by the American colonial government. Tarlac Provincial Hospital, established in 1923, was the first provincial hospital in the country. In 1953, Ma. Christina Galang, hailing from the province, became the first Miss Philippines.
