The highlight of the trip to Puerto Princesa should have been a visit to the Underground River. Sometimes, things fall so snugly into place that we just doubt the alleged randomness of life. They had just cancelled all trips to Caticlan due to safety issues, and we were being rerouted to Kalibo.

I’ve always enjoyed having easy access to the world-famous golden sunset at Manila Bay, that’s why I established my residence along the 7-km Roxas Boulevard, which is lined by graceful coconut trees, further highlighting the glorious shades of gold and amber painted across the sky every late afternoon. MANILA, Philippines — A trip to Tagaytay, at least for the young and restive, almost always starts with a spontaneous urge to drive, looking out for the first bite of cold, windows rolled down. Roads getting steeper, trees older; wayside stands for flowers, plants, fruits and furniture, appearing one by one. The road banks and suddenly you’re at the rotonda. Jackets on, hoods up -- just to turn to the nearest 24-hour fast food to grab a burger.
